Is Betalo safe?
Betalo is a payment institution according to the Payment Services Act (2010:751) and is supervised by the Financial Supervisory Authority in Sweden.
All communication between Betalo and our customers, as well as between Betalo’s systems, is encrypted and protected with 128-bit Extended Validation SSL certificates. Betalo does not store any card data; this is only handled by Nets. Betalo monitors all transactions to detect unusual activity and protect against potential fraud.
Betalo uses BankID on mobile and BankID for secure identification and login.
Betalo is hosted in data centers that are accredited according to PCI-DSS Level 1 with restricted access and 24/7 monitoring. Betalo follows OWASP’s recommendations for the products and platforms we use.
How do I create a Betalo account?
You can create a Betalo account in our mobile app (available on iPhone and Android). You identify yourself using BankID on mobile.
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account and pay with Betalo. Betalo is currently only available to customers who are registered in Sweden or Norway, have a Swedish or Norwegian personal identification number, and do not have protected identity.
Which cards does Betalo accept?
Betalo accepts all types of cards, i.e., debit cards, debit cards, and credit cards. Betalo also accepts all Visa and Mastercard issued in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, within the EU, and outside the EU.
We also have partnerships with several card issuers.
What is a partner card?
A partner card is a card issued by a company or organization with which Betalo has entered into a collaboration. These card issuers offer their customers the ability to use Betalo for a lower fee or no fee at all.
When you add a partner card, the system automatically recognizes which card it is and provides you with the correct fee for using Betalo.
How do I get a receipt for my payment?
Go to the Payments tab, click on your payment. Then click on the receipt icon in the upper right corner. If you want to download the receipt, click on the download icon in the upper right corner. The receipt will be downloaded as a PDF, and you can then send the receipt to yourself or choose to print it.
Does Betalo have push notifications?
Yes, Betalo offers push notifications.
iOS: Go to Settings > Notifications > Betalo and turn on “Allow Notifications.”
Android: Go to Settings > Apps & Notifications > Betalo > Notifications and turn on the notifications you want.
Can I name my cards in the app?
Yes, you can name your cards. You will be prompted to do this when you add the card in the app. You can also do it later by clicking on the three dots in the upper right corner of the card and selecting “Change Name.”
On which technical platforms can I use Betalo?
Betalo is a mobile app for iPhone and Android. You can download the app from the App Store or Google Play.
How much does Betalo cost?
Betalo uses a simple pricing model without fixed fees. The service fee for using a partner card ranges from 2.3% to 2.9%.
How do I add a card in Betalo’s app?
You add your card in the Betalo app by first clicking on the card icon. Once you have clicked on the card icon, click on the plus sign in the upper right corner. Then fill in your card information. Click on register and confirm with 3D Secure.
Card information is securely stored with Nets. Betalo never stores your card information.
What happens if my card is declined?
The fact that your card is declined usually has nothing to do with Betalo. Therefore, we ask you to contact your card issuer if you have questions about this. Please check the terms and conditions that your card issuer has for online payments.
Are payments made with Betalo considered card transactions?
Payments made with Betalo are usually considered card transactions. However, there are exceptions, so we recommend checking with your card issuer. Betalo can never guarantee points earning, as it is up to each individual card issuer.
Where can I see my payment history?
All payments you have made can be viewed in the app under the payments tab.
Are payments made with Betalo bonus-based?
Payments made with Betalo usually earn bonus points for card programs with a bonus system. However, there are exceptions, so we recommend checking with your card issuer.
What is the maximum payment I can make via Betalo?
The possible size of payments is determined by the card you are using, as well as your own credit limit. If you plan to pay more than 500,000 NOK per year, please let us know at info@betalo.no.
When will my card be charged when I pay a bill?
You can either make a direct payment or schedule the payment for a later time. With direct payment, the card is charged immediately when you register the payment.
If you schedule the payment, the card will be charged approximately 3 days before the date the payment is due to reach the recipient. To make a direct payment, select the payment date “Now.”
Please note that we cannot guarantee that your card will be charged on a specific date if you choose to schedule the payment. For promotional offers such as double points on weekends, we recommend that you manually go into the app and enter your payments with the payment date “Now.”

How do I pay a bill?
Log in to the app.
Click on the plus icon.
Select “Pay a bill.”
Choose the card you want to pay with: Visa or Mastercard. If you have a partner card, select one.
Fill in the recipient’s details.
Click on the green checkmark in the upper right corner.
Review the information you have entered.
Approve the payment by clicking the green checkmark again and confirming with 3D Secure.
With Betalo, it is not allowed to pay bills to the Norwegian enforcement authority, collection agencies, banks, and credit institutions.*
- Payments are automatically made on the first possible payment date. You can make payments one by one.
What bills can I pay with Betalo?
You can pay bills, but it is not allowed to pay bills belonging to collection agencies, the Norwegian enforcement authority, banks, or credit institutions. For example, you cannot pay your credit card bill with Betalo.
Special terms for payments with American Express
When paying with an American Express card, specific rules apply:
- Amex cards may only be used for private and personal purposes, in accordance with American Express membership terms.
- Payments made with Amex can only be sent to recipients permitted under Betalo’s and/or American Express’ applicable recipient rules at any given time.
- You are responsible for ensuring that all recipient information provided is accurate, complete, and eligible for Amex payments.
- As a result, payments with Amex are only permitted to recipients within the following categories:
– Telecommunication services
– Cable and other pay-TV services
-Utilities (electricity, gas, water, plumbing)
– Insurance services and premiums
– Property management and rentals
– Parking facilities and garages
– Dance halls, studios, and schools
– Membership clubs (sports, leisure, and fitness), country clubs, and private golf clubs
– Doctors, hospitals, and healthcare services
– Primary and secondary schools
– Colleges, universities, vocational and youth schools
– Correspondence and educational schools
– Childcare services
– Legal costs, including alimony and child support
– Fines
– Tax payments
– Government services
Important:
If an Amex card is used in violation of these rules, or if incorrect or misleading recipient information is provided, Betalo may block the account, decline payments, and take further action in accordance with applicable terms and conditions.
When will the money reach the recipient when I pay a bill?
The money is registered in the recipient’s account on the date specified as the payment date.
How do I know that the money has reached a recipient when I have paid a bill?
The payment is always posted to the recipient’s account on the payment date.
In your payment history, the status of the payment changes from “managed”/”pending” to “paid.”
How do I cancel the payment of a bill?
If you wish to cancel a payment, we ask you to contact our customer service no later than 4:45 PM on the banking day before the payment date.
Can I pay an e-invoice on Betalo?
You can pay your e-invoice with Betalo. All you need to do is take the information from the e-invoice and register it on Betalo instead. Then remove the e-invoice from your bank.
Unfortunately, you currently cannot receive the e-invoice directly to Betalo, but this is something we plan to offer in the future.
Does Betalo offer direct debit?
Betalo does not offer direct debit, as this is a specific product.
What is the earliest payment date I can specify when paying a bill?
The earliest payment date is approximately 3 business days for payments over 3,000 NOK and 1 business day for payments under 3,000 NOK, regardless of card type.
When will my card be charged when I pay a bill?

Questions about transferring money to bank accounts
How do I send money to a bank account?
- Log in to the app.
- Click on the plus icon.
- Select “Send to bank account.”
- Choose the card you want to pay with: Visa or Mastercard.
- Fill in the recipient’s details, such as account number and message.
- Click on the green checkmark in the upper right corner.
- Review the information you have entered.
- Approve the payment by clicking the green checkmark again and confirming with 3D Secure.
- The transfer will be executed automatically on the first possible payment date. You can make one-to-one transfers.
When will my card be charged when I transfer to a bank account?
You can either make a direct payment or schedule the payment to be completed at a later time. With direct payment, the card will be charged immediately when you register the payment. If you schedule the payment, the card will be charged 3 days before the payment is due to reach the recipient.
When will the money reach the recipient when transferring to a Norwegian bank account?
The money is registered in the recipient’s account on the date specified as the payment date.
When will my card be charged when I transfer to a bank account?
